For the second field trip, we had to contact at least one teacher who should comment on our teaching lesson, which deals with the topic Social Networking Sites.
Our first idea was to present our teaching sequence in the forum Referendar.de because we wanted to have a more objective opinion and not just the opinion of one single teacher. But that didn't work out that well... Firstly, we didn't receive many answers and, additionally, the comments were not very helpful.

Here you can see the people's answers (we decided not to translate it into English so that the exact wording does not get lost):

As you can see, these results weren't very helpful. Since we were not satisfied with these results, we consulted a "real" teacher, Alexander Schüler, who works at the Johann-Textor-Schule in Haiger as a teacher for Maths and English. We showed him our whole teaching sequence with the help of our e-portfolios. Additionally, we asked several questions.
Here you can see our results:
  • Do you think such a topic / lesson is appropriate for a 12th grade?
Yes, I think it is very important. The students should learn at school how to use Social Networking Sites properly. There are also good books on that topic. Furthermore, it should be a requirement and you could perhaps add a previous lesson on that topic.
  • Can you find any language mistakes?
"Color" is wrong, it should be "colour".
  • Do you think we have to do any further preparation for the homework?
Yes, I think so. If you want your students to write comments, you should give them a worksheet with useful phrases and linking words.
  • Do you think that the topics of our group work are appropriate or would you add something else?
I think they are appropriate. Furthermore, you could add  a topic like  "SNS- loosing reality". (Recently I saw somebody uploading information about his father's death. You know what I mean...)
  • Did we choose the right (new) media?
I never heard of "Wordle" before and I don't know if this tool is so encouraging for students in 12th grade. I would prefer a more organized overview (think about).
In my opinion, "PiratePad" is better, although you have to be aware of the danger of information overload. Basic skills could be lost due to this, but perhaps I'm a bit too "oldschool".
  • Do you think that our aims are appropriate?
Yes, well done. I like your aims and I also think (I would have suggested this as well) that you could do the lesson with a 10th grade. It would fit better. I don't believe that 12graders have to learn how to write comments, it should just be a repetition.
  • Would you change / add anything?
I think you should highlight even more that students and people in general have to know how to use SNS properly because theses pages become increasingly important nowadays.
